How to Create Custom Tool Presets for Photoshop

Custom tool preset options in photoshop actions gives one an opportunity to save all the variable settings associated with the tool. It uses specific brushes with specific sizes, distinct blending modes, feathering, and transparency with other features can be incorporated by only one click of the mouse.

The custom tool preset tool also allows the creation of customized brushes meant for a specific task while storing them in a floating palette or in tool sets for accessibility. The various steps involved with this process include;

Selecting the tool

The toolbox has different tools designed to work with different Photoshop tool. Tool preset can therefore be created for a specific Photoshop and the selection of a required tool is the beginning of the process. After that, one has to select the option they want for the selected tool.

A good example is when someone has selected the rectangular marquee tool in the toolbar and are supposed to select a fixed size option in the pop up box because it goes in line with the selected tool. In the pop up box, they will enter the desired height and width measurements.

Setting the tools parameters

The options bar has many options in it upon which one has to select in the first step. However, in this step, there is need to modify the settings of the selected tool.

Any setting chosen or any change made can be saved in the preset together with the background and the foreground colors chosen.

Opening the tool preset palette

Select window or menu, go to tool preset and click in order to open the tool preset palette. The palette has a collection of all the palettes present in the system and by opening it, one can either view all the presets available or only the currently opened preset.

If all the presets are opened, select the current tool only check box located below the palette and restrict the selection to only show the preset of the current tool.

 Saving the preset

The next step to follow is about saving the preset. In the palette menu, there is an option for new too preset, select it or click on the icon found in the bottom of the palette.

A window will open with a new tool preset, name it and click on. If one desires to maintain the colors in the foreground, include the color checkbox to preserve them as part of the preset.

 Load the preset

In the tool presets palette, go to preset bar and click on it. This will load the preset options for the specifically chosen tool.

Hints

For a short way to leave the currently used preset, one has to check the disable box and all the presets for all the selected tools will appear in the palette. This allows one to access their specific preset whenever they need to as well as changing the tools and the parameters.

Also, about saving and loading off the sets, some projects will require that unique tool presets be used.
